Garden gates from Bali, a sphinx guarded canal, a Botero sculpture surveying her rosebushes – all part of the eclectic mix in the twenty-five award-winning gardens featured in “The Garden’s of Chicago’s Gold Coast”. Accompanying the fifty-two pages of color photos are historical and architectural descriptions as well as horticultural information.

Many of the gardens are open to the public during the annual Dearborn Garden Walk. Some have never been available for public viewing. A few are those magnificent spaces hidden behind the grand mansions along Chicago’s Gold Coast. Others are tiny spaces transformed by innovative gardeners into personal retreats. All reflect the unique art of urban gardening. This is not a “how to” gardening book but rather a “why not” book. It is not meant to instruct but rather to delight and inspire.
